Happy Holidays

December 24, 2012 – 6:20 pm

Stock-ChristmasThis is the last week of trading for the year and 4 out of every 5 years it is up. The average return for this week is a little more than 1%. Last year it was down about a half percent. This is called the Christmas rally and it starts the day after Christmas to the New Year.

Will we have a rally this year? There are some difficult issues this year that the rally must overcome, the Fiscal Cliff being the biggest, but just as influential is the fact that December has already rallied and stock indexes are reaching what the technicians, (those that read stock charts), call resistance.

The smart money is staying with stocks. No one knows what will happen but playing the odds is a good strategy. With a 75% chance of the week being up and light volume in stocks insuring some strong movements I would suggest you ignore the week and enjoy the holidays. No matter which way the market moves, life is too short not to enjoy family and friends, especially this time of year.

Merry Christmas
