Job Prospects

December 29, 2010 – 6:36 pm

Many experts are calling for an improving economy and a decent stock market for 2011. This may well be true by the time we look back at the year but during the year there will be fits and starts. That does not mean much for someone who is unemployed.

Job creation will finally take hold but they will still be modest. Recent surveys of employers are showing a willingness by large employers to hire as their sales and profits continue to show growth. The problem with those surveys is that 80% of all jobs are created by small companies, not large ones, and those people never see a survey question as to what they are going to do. Until the small business person feels comfortable with not only the economy but with what the government is going to do to them regarding taxes and new rules and regulations they are not going to hire. This a very difficult time for hiring.

Jobs will increase next year but it will only dent the unemployment rate not slash it.
